Transitioning at Springfield: A Guide for Parents
Transition is an essential part of a child’s educational journey, marking important milestones in their development. At Springfield, we understand that children encounter a variety of transitions in their daily routine. From moving around the school to different classrooms, participating in swimming lessons, or exploring the outdoor areas, each transition offers valuable experiences to help them grow.
When your child is preparing to start at Springfield, we implement a comprehensive transition package. This package allows parents to share important information about their child both through documentation and in face-to-face discussions. We believe that communication is key, and that’s why we organise opportunities for your child to visit the school beforehand. During these visits, they will engage with the classroom environment, meet their peers, and interact with the staff they will work with in their new setting. This familiarisation helps ease any anxiety, making the first day at Springfield a positive experience.
As your child progresses through their time at Springfield, they will face new transitions, such as moving between classes. Each year, we provide opportunities for children to visit their new classes and meet the staff who will guide them in their learning. Furthermore, we invite parents to connect with the new class teams, fostering a supportive network that benefits everyone involved.
The transition from Springfield to secondary school is a significant step in your child’s development, and we begin preparing for this in Year 4. During the child’s Year 5 annual review, parents are encouraged to express their preferences for secondary placements. We work closely with parents to ensure they feel supported in this process. Our partnership with The Meadows, our federated secondary school, ensures that many activities are available for children in Years 5 and 6. These activities allow children to become acquainted with the secondary setting before the transition, making the leap to secondary school less daunting.
At Springfield, we pride ourselves on supporting our children at every transition phase. We firmly believe that with the right preparation and opportunities, your child will navigate these changes with confidence, ready for the exciting challenges that lie ahead.
